The rooms you keep
estate is a small catalogue of furniture and objects, chosen one at a time. We are not a factory and we do not pretend to be one. We look for pieces we would live with ourselves, in materials that age rather than wear out, and we put them in front of people furnishing for the long version of their life.
How we choose
Material first. Stone, solid timber, glass, steel and leather, because they are honest about their age. A travertine table gets better with a ring left on it. A veneer does not.
Then shape. We look for profiles that were worked out decades ago and have not been improved on since. A piece that needs a trend to make sense will stop making sense.
Then the practical part. Does it hold up. Can it be lived with rather than maintained. Would it go in our own rooms. If the answer is no on any of those, we pass.
